Night Shadow

Thunder rolls
I fade
Into shadow
Flowing
Away in
Night rain
Wrapped
In the scent
Of exotic
White Flowers
Rolling thunder
Carries me
I am heavy
Sorrowing
Grieving
An echo
Growing distant
My whispers
Are rumbling
Waves resonating
Into flowing
Night shadow

Spring Frost

.
.
As the ice mist
Trailed, following
The setting moon,
Cold again, no wind,
Spring frost sparkling,
The stars began to sing
Aria of The Night,
And all the trees
Danced in circles,
Heart-beat resonance,
Sedate, and elegant,
Swaying with
The star’s song.

However, the squirrels didn’t much like it.

Moonlight Nap

.
I started
To sleep
Out
Under the moon;
All was comfy,
And I
Dozed off.
After a while,
The skeets said,
“Give it up.”
Enough comfy
Moon-gazing,
Enough
Moonlight nap.
Only prickly
Stings
With the moonlight,
Now.
I have a few
Photos
And many
Red bites.
I walked
Alone
In the moonlight.
T’was not dark
At all,
But the shadows
Were bright
And moving.
The dogs barked
At the shadow
Movement,
As much
As the scents,
But there
Were scents,
As well.
Animals,
And sweet
Flowers
That bloom
Only
In moonlight.
Lots of eyes
Reflected the flash …
There was
Company in the woods.
I was not
Really alone,
Not
At all.
We are never,
Really
Alone.
Ever.
Merely
Separate
From
Each other.
Help apart
By shifting
Deceitful
Illusions,
Chimeras lurking
In shifting
Shadows.
Truth dancing
In moonlight
Wishes.
The skeets
Say
with their
Screaming whines
“Give it up.”
Dreams
Were lost
Long ago.

Night In January

.
.
My home is a house
Amongst forest trees.
This night the trees
Are silent.
They do not creak,
Nor sigh.
The owls are quiet.
The horse is quiet.
The Guineas are
Not complaining.
No one speaks.
I hear the stars singing
Of their eternal journeys.
The brightening moon
Illuminates clouds,
Sand and water
In silvery blues.
The trees cast
Golden shadows.
All else is mystery.
Behind my eyes
Is night.
I whisper of
What I feel.
Your voice answers
Telling me of
Your wants that
Are needs.
Behind my eyes
Is night.
Behind my eyes
Sleeps black darkness.
Golden shadows
Outline my
Cold blue hands.
The trees
Remain silent.

Rising Grandmother

.
.
Grandmother is rising
She transforms me
Into shadows amongst
Other shadows shifting
Owls call disturbing voles
Frogs sing of the recent rain
Dogs are barking at nothing
Barking at breezes and movement
Moonlight and shadows
Ephemeral as a life once lived
Now carried as a burden
Weariness lives in my hair
Though I cut most of it off
The weight of white shimmering
Is heavy heavy so heavy
I pretend to watch
Where are my feet lead me
I heard an old man say please
I saw in the moonlight
Arrogance and ignorance
Holding tight together
As Grandmother passed
They resolved into
Something else a widow-maker
Or perhaps nothing
The misty ancient please winks
Brightening passing clouds
Moisture drips slowly
From the points of pine needles

Trees That I Cannot See

.
.
Velvet warmth
Soothes gently
Thick heavy
Humid night
Tiny sparkles
All around
Cicadas and frog
Chorus overwhelms
Star songs
Night scents
Bloom redolent
Layered memory
Patchouli and
Sandalwood
Sometimes one
Sometimes
Another
There are
No night birds
Calling
The cicadas
Have gone silent
The valley
Is dark
Trees that
I cannot see
Rustle whispering
Ancient secrets
