FORGOTTEN — Music Themes

Johnny  chose the music theme FORGOTTEN for this week.

Music can be a guide
That takes one
So far outside,
Expanding experience,
So that self
Is forgotten,
There is no memory
And all is One.
Music can take one
So far within,
That the personal
Merges with the music,
So that the
Curtain of illusion
Is forgotten,
All is illusion,
And all is One.

I have some personal music favorites which I use as transportation to the OTHER, to the FORGOTTEN, that I did not use, opting instead for performances new to me. Some of these I selected for their being appropriate to the theme, a few for that beautiful quality that transports the listener to a new realm, somewhere that maybe is not entirely new, somewhere visited by musicians and listeners now and again, somewhere only FORGOTTEN for a while …

Perhaps one of these pieces will be a guide to the FORGOTTEN for you?

.Lana Trotovsek – J.S.BACH: Fugue from Violin Sonata in G minor

.Lana Trotovsek, of Slovenia, has such close to perfect execution that I am able to forget about the work and time and effort that goes into learning and practice and just give myself over to listening….

.Music sometimes guides the listener almost too far inward into psyche all too realistic, through the music characterization, so that there is understanding, blurring the lines between what is manufactured and what is real. Perhaps it is more pleasant for some experience to be FORGOTTEN, to not know at all ……

Hi Bear, yes I did respond a few days ago, however many of my comments go Spam for whatever reason. If you look under Dashboard>Comments>Spam folder, u’ll most likely find several of my comments, lol.
Yes I’m inspired to participate with u guys for Thurs. I’m thinking for the following week, we can explore song transitions as a theme. It’s popular in music forums, ppl discuss reasons/ opinions on why a song naturally, elegantly, seamlessly transitions into another. We gain greater appreciation and perspective for the artist’s creative process, aesthetics, style etc.
What do you think? Enjoy u’r evening! 🙂

    • Ooops nothing in the spam folder … several Nike and Cialis adds, though 🙂 I already reminded Lisa that she is up next, and she will post her idea on her theme blog tomorrow.
      ….
If you would like to cycle in, after Johnny, who is just after Lisa, that would be wonderful. Sometimes Johnny skips his turn, but usually he doesn’t. FORGOTTEN, last week, was his.

You do have an interesting idea.

Do keep in mind though, this is not an assignment, a theme is just that a theme — a starting point. It is just for fun, not “homework”. We do try to allow ourselves to interpret the basic idea however we each choose, so a lot instruction is generally omitted.

I have been surprised at some of the ways a theme that I thought was obvious was interpreted with entirely unexpected musical (or other)ideas … and so I learned and was introduced to new musicians and musical forms. I am constantly amazed at what is available You Tube … as well as what is missing.

Many times no discussion or explanation has been provided. Just a music selection and the listener can make their own connections to the theme, or be perplexed. Not everyone even provides information such as title or musicians or conductors beyond what is in the video itself. That is all up to each individual’s discretion.

Or sometimes poems, links, art work, original music (Johnny) or detailed explanation are offered, or the lyrics. Sometimes space becomes a factor and we have found that (at least in the free versions) WP can not load more than 8 clips without degrading. But occasionally someone may find so many pieces of relevant music that they have to make 2 or even 3 blog posts for variations on the same theme.

Part of the fun of it is the individual interpretation of the basic idea … we try not to limit by era, genre, personal ideologies, educational background, or anything like that… the only limitations are what we can find and what we don’t mind having on our own blogs. Nobody wants to post music they don’t like on their own blog 🙂

I am so glad you are joining in with your own unique outlook and ideas.
This go-round it will be Lisa (posting her theme choice tomorrow for next Thursday), then Johnny, then you, then me. if that is acceptable, you’ll just slip in in front of me, and I’ll back off a week. I look forward to seeing how you decide to present your idea … or if it evolves in your mind and morfs (I mean transitions) ???

      Welcome Maddie.

p.s. — you did ask what do I think.

Thanks for sharing a most insightful poem, music to my ears. I agree, when you lose yourself in the experience of creation, we pierce through illusion and make it “real”. Music is such a vehicle for transcendence. A stunning performance from Lana, I quite enjoyed it along with the rest of your selections. Watching FORGOTTEN from Azam Ali & Loga Ramin Torkian allows me freedom to zen out! Enjoy your evening Bear. 🙂

Wonderful. A completely different perspective. A beautiful perspective. I almost used that Delerium song. I love that song. Eva sent me a link too! She is so awesome. I have so much fun doing this together. 🙂

    • Thank you

It’s OK to overlap. When someone else choses the same clip as I, personally, I am flattered. I don’t always delete a selection just because someone else selected it also…. I only do that if there are just too many for the blog to load. 😀 In this case, I almost did not use Ocean of Innocence. but I did. Glad you like it. I wish Lisa and Klaus had left out the techno sounding keyboard, though, I would have preferred an organ or piano or strings. Just me.

      🙂 🙂 🙂

I like classical piano and violin as well, but Delerium has a special place in my heart. I like the Karma album the best.

        • Not classical exactly, I like the bits of melody and the octave, I just …. well who am I anyway? Lisa Gerrard has lots of other music, too. I even own some of her albums. And I liked this one quite a bit, too, enough to use it here. 🙂 I am so glad that the artists allow their music to be on You Tube. I would not know of the existence of many, without that public access. Some performers do not allow it.
