Shale Formations Identified To House Nuclear Waste —- Now What???

So now even areas that we thought were safe from mining operations are to be contaminated by reverse-mines?  Is everywhere

to be  turned into watseland?  WE MUST STOP CREATING THE NUCLEAR WASTE IN THE FIRST PLACE.  STOP.  JUST STOP.

Shale and other clay-rich rock formations might offer permanent disposal solutions for spent nuclear fuel, according to a new paper by the U.S. Geological Survey. There is currently about 70,000 metric tons of this spent fuel in temporary storage across the United States. While no specific sites have been evaluated for storage potential in the United States, USGS scientists have looked at several research efforts, including projects that are underway in France, Belgium and Switzerland to confirm that shale formations in those countries are favorable for hosting nuclear waste repositories.

Switzerland’s Only Bear Shot by Authorities After Being Deemed Dangerous to  Humans

Wildlife rangers have shot dead Switzerland’s only bear because authorities  feared it posed a threat to humans.

It was a male bear, known only as M13, and he had lived in the Graubuenden  mountain region of eastern Switzerland, on the border with Italy, Agence  France-Press reported. Springs were spent in the Val Poschiavo. AFP reported  that the two-year-old bear had begun foraging for food in inhabited areas and  sometimes followed people.

“In November 2012, the bear had already been considered problematic and  placed on a behaviour-watch list, a step away from a cull order,” the news wire  said. “Before deciding they must kill the bear, Swiss rangers had attempted to  increase its wariness of humans by firing rubber pellets and firecrackers.”

But that didn’t work, and the bear, the last survivor of three cubs—his  brothers had been hit by cars in Italy—was shot by wildlife rangers on February  19, a spokesman for the Swiss government’s Federal Office for the Environment  Adrian Aeschlimann told AFP.

“Both in the autumn and now after waking from his winter sleep, the bear kept  looking for food in villages, had followed people in broad daylight and—despite  repeated measures to scare him off—showed absolutely no fear of humans,” said a  statement from Switzerland’s Federal Office for the Environment, quoted by the Swiss  Broadcasting Corporation.
“He was classified as a risk to human safety.  Under Switzerland’s ‘bear plan’ it became inevitable that he would be shot.”

The bear had allegedly awakened about 10 days before the shooting, followed  two hikers into a village, and then ambled down the town’s main drag, the Swiss  authorities told the broadcasting network. M13 was a cross-border bear, and  there are 30 or 40 bears in Italy right next door, authorities said.

European nations are slowly losing their bears. In the Spanish Pyrenees, the  last female brown bear died in 2010, the Telegraph  reported in October of that year. The endangered species Urus arctos, the  European brown bear, was down to about 20 in the Pyrenees, the Telegraph  reported. France has halted its 20-year-long attempt to repopulate the mountain  range with brown bears, the newspaper said, in light of shepherd complaints of  livestock attacks.

Italy’s Trentino region has about 40 bears, Swiss authorities said at a press  conference following M13’s slaying, so more could easily cross into Switzerland.  M13 was part of that group, the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation  said.

Peace on Earth

Dear Ones,

What do YOU think? It seems to me:

All we need near Turkey and Syria, are some Hapsburgs, for history to start repeating ……… After all, WWII was not really separate from WWI.

In the Eastern hemisphere the Little Island and Shoal Disputes (My own title), which seem quite similar to the USA’s “Lily Pad” style of strategic planning (seems to me) but, there, on behalf of the Chinese, is dividing up that part of the world, as well. Those arguments are not about Japan’s WWII aspirations and shameful attempts at Empire building, nor even about oil or Philippine fishing rights. It is all strategic jockeying. Chinese Lily Pads are being constructed, everywhere, as fast as they can be put in place, though they are called by other names.

Why can’t we just skip WWIII? All this build up to it is stressful, as well. Why bother? Let’s just skip the mess, all together.
It is SO much easier to clean up a mess that is not even made in the first place. Mothers know this. why can’t the rest of humanity figure it out?

Let us just forward jump on to the Einstein predicted Sticks and Stones Era (of Peaceful Enlightenment … Aquarius), without all the in between conflagration? Use all of our wonderful technology wonderfully instead of horribly? Wind farms and solar have problems, but not as big as nuclear, coal, and oil problems. Portable charging stations for electric vehicles shouldn’t really be such a big obstacle. Save the [petro for flight and trains and some chemo stuff, such as roads), until they get improved as well….. Throw out the GMOs and dioxin (and other poisons) based agriculture, and most plastics and clean up the way we do all things. To redirect our energies seems, at least superficially, so relatively easy …… Just do it right, rather than keep on doing it (everything) wrong. Stop all this HALF-ASSED NONSENSE FALL APART BUILDING and PRETEND NEGOTIATIONS. Forthright. Honest. Build things, large and small, for true usefulness and beauty. If it isn’t both, don’t build it. At all. Figure out how, then just do it!

The following was a small conversation which prompted the previous, heartfelt, ranting post ….

I felt compelled to make a small comment. It is about an hour ago from 2:00 pm EST Oct. 12. The Nobel Peace Prize does seem a little like a Tongue in Cheek Spoof Award, for some time now.

And somebody agrees with me…

Bizarre, I feel, to claim that it has united countries and created peace. Perhaps among leaders but wasn’t it Nazis who created and prosecuted war throughout Europe? Does anyone imagine that if a charismatic but evil leader rose again that the European would prevent WW3. Somehow, this award indicates to me that Brussels has pulled enough strings to pat itself on the back.

EU wins 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, despite debt crisis

EU wins 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, despite debt crisis
OSLO (Reuters) – The European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for its historic role in uniting the continent in an award meant as a morale boost for the bloc as it struggles to resolve its debt crisis. The EU has been a key in transforming Europe “from a continent of wars to a continent of peace,” Committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said in announcing the award in Oslo. “This is a message to Europe to do everything they can to secure what they’ve achieved and move forward,” Jagland said, saying it was a reminder of what would be lost “if the union is allowed to collapse”. .

Very interesting.
Not to be ignored and worth taking on board.
Whatever your view of the Swiss may be, let me quote the XX Committee in connection with this subject:
“It’s easy to dismiss the Swiss, since they are a tiny country whose military hasn’t actually fought anybody in a couple centuries. On the other hand, they managed to stay out of both of Europe’s catastrophic World Wars precisely though preparing for eventualities and maintaining a strong defensive capability. They’re clearly on to something.”

What do you think of this Op Ed? Actually, Switzerland has a large Muslim population of its own.

Switzerland Prepares For Mass Civil Unrest In Europe

Fears over race wars, economic fallout prompt new military battalions
Paul Joseph Watson

Despite being one of the most stable and economically vibrant countries in the world, primarily as a result of its refusal to join the Euro, Switzerland is preparing for mass civil unrest in central Europe that could spill over its border, by mobilizing troops to deal with potential disorder.

The Swiss military is adding four new military battalions to its army that will be spread around the country for the purposes of dealing with the fallout from any widespread disorder that could arise from the crumbling Eurozone.
“Minister Maurer, accompanied by whispers from the top uniformed leadership in Switzerland, is trying to raise awareness that Europe’s massive fiscal-cum-political crisis could get very unpleasant, writes John R. Schindler, a professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College. “Swiss military exercises in September, called STABILO DUE, were based on EU instability getting out of hand. The Swiss have stayed out of the EU – one more thing the very prosperous Swiss are gloating about these days – and they certainly don’t want EU problems spilling over into their peaceful little country.”
Maurer is concerned that the massive decline in European militaries since the end of the Cold War could leave countries vulnerable to insurrections and even race wars.
Schindler notes that if the ire of Muslims is raised a couple of notches above the anger that was stirred as a result of the YouTube “film” which insulted the Prophet Mohammad, immigrants in European countries could rise up.
“It’s commonly held by European security insiders that if the next Anders Brievik were to target Muslims, not fellow Europeans, things could get unimaginably ugly very quickly,” he writes. “It is difficult to see how Europe’s much smaller militaries could cope with massive civil disturbances. (And don’t ask Uncle Sam for help, since the very last thing the Pentagon wants is to get dragged into any riot suppression – particularly putting down Muslim uprisings – anywhere in Europe.)”
Switzerland maintains a trained army of 200,000 troops, a massive amount considering the nation’s tiny population. All military age males are also mandated to complete basic training, meaning the country can rely on a huge militia in times of crisis, a fact many historians cite when explaining why Hitler refused to invade Switzerland during World War Two even though it was surrounded by Nazi-occupied bordering countries.
Europe has been rocked with riots and unrest over the last three years, tensions that have only increased in recent months. France, Britain, Italy, Greece, Portugal and most recently Spain have all witnessed scenes of unprecedented disorder.
A growing underclass as the gap between rich and poor widens allied with harsh austerity measures which punish those least responsible yet most vulnerable to the economic collapse have fanned the flames of discontent.
In Spain, which was devastated by huge riots last month, youth unemployment has risen to exceed 50%, while benefits have been slashed. Overall unemployment stands at a staggering 25.1 per cent. Compare that to Switzerland which has an unemployment rate of just 2.8 per cent and the foresight of the Swiss in staying out of the Euro is admirable.
