All of these peoples have lived here:
Hitchiti, Muskogee, Oconee, and Tallaassee, which are Creek Confederation. Itza Maya left DNA and language among the Creeks. There are 74 mounds near here. The Timucua, which are Arawak, where resident in this area. Last to arrive were Tsalagi being crowded out of their slightly more northern homelands.
St. Mar’s River viewed from Georgia, facing north. The river forms the state line between Georgia and Florida. Florida is East. Georgia is West.
All of the greenery makes it difficult to see the river until you are close
.
Winter sunset becomes
High water slowly flowing.
Trees weary with waiting
Call darkness from memory.
Thoughts, too loud,
Disturb Blue Heron.
She flies away,
Away from me,
Away from color.
Night grows outward
From dreaming roots.

. Late Afternoon – High Water – St. Mary’s River Swamp – North East Florida
The St. Mary’s River, proper, is beyond the background trees. None of that water is stagnant. I took some photos at the water’s edge where even here, a quarter mile from the river, there is visible current with floating woods debris. Thursday, the 22nd was sunny, but Friday there was torrential rain most of the day and night, Followed by strong wind from the North, before dawn Saturday, and gusty most of the day. The temperature is dropping quickly, now that the wind has stopped.
