Widow Maker Spring Time Party … You Do Not Want to Be Invited
This Widow Maker tried to make a widow out of me

Bear … 03.12.2014 This Widow Maker tried to make a widow out of me.
My husband says it missed him by less than a meter.
No sound, no warning. He felt the rush of air and the
first branches hit the ground as he had just turned
away to go inside.

Widow Makers are actually trees and tree branches that shed or fall. They can be deadly if they land on unwary persons or animals below. Once fallen, the dead-fall becomes home for wildlife once more., But it also creates obstacles and new hazards on the ground or submerged in water or mud. During Mother Natures spring cleaning, she sweeps the old dead wood from the forest to the floor.

WIND FALL
.
The Widow Maker is a killer
Hidden in the glory forest of new growth
.
The Widow Maker is waiting
Shedding death with winter’s clothes
.
The Widow Maker is biding time
Sustaining Dryocopus Pileatus
.
The Widow Maker is suspended
Between living and dead
.
The Widow Maker is paused
Waiting for the dagger moment
.
The Widow Maker anticipates
The deadfall reunion
.
The Widow Maker lingers
Giving life to the Spring
.
The Widow Maker is listening
For the wind fall song of death
.
The Widow Maker remains poised
Leaning towards the tipping threshold
.
The Widow Maker is attuned
Yv-wi tsv-di singing between the shadows
.
The Widow Maker is attending
The deadly dance of flowering rebirth

Avoiding the Urban Skyline
.
A trip to the VA Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida afforded photo ops with the sun shining brightly February 25, 2014. I avoided the urban skyline that the Chamber of Commerce prefers to publish.

- Bear … 02.25.14 … I love when the Confederate Jasmine blooms turning the dreary gray-brown vines a sunny yellow.
After leaving the Veteran’s Administration Clinic we headed North. It was a warm sunny day in late February.

Viewed From A Higher Elevation
In order to travel north west I had to fly north-north-east then west. The scenery looks different observed from this elevated height. The muted silvery blue pastels entranced. The temperature was 17 F when I left the Jacksonville International Airport January 8. Bear 02.24.2014

MOUNTAIN ICE MIST
- Bear 02.02.2014
MOUNTAIN ICE MIST
What is the difference
In feigned indifference
And indifference that is real?
The feigned indifference hides
Feelings protected by the layers
Of practicing to be aloof.
True indifference feels nothing,
Is innocent of deceit,
Yet is opaque as captured light.
Indifference requires no pretense
There is nothing to protect
There is no heart, just ego and id.
The feigned and the true,
Become the same in the end
As practicing indifference leads
To no feelings hidden or unreal.
Indifference is the heart of
The cold Mountain Ice Mist.

THERE WAS A HARD FREEZE IN THE LOW TEENS THAT NIGHT …. AS I FLEW NORTH, IN MORNING OF THE 7TH, THE TEMPERATURES BECAME WARMER.

Foggy October Moonlight
The bright October Moonlight is so bright it illuminates the foggy clouds creating shadows of the tree cover.
Through the trees lighted windows offer respite in the shadowed darkness.

October Morning Light Seen Through The Trees
- After 9 AM and a thin mist has not yet lifted
- The morning light
- There is still a little mist in the woods
These photos were made facing North.
Finally the air is cool enough to breathe. Nights are 65-75 F. The morning light changes from September blue-ish to October yellow white as sunrise shifts to the south. Depending on cloud cover the afternoons can be glaring. Every year is different temperature wise, some years we have had hard freezes and some years we swelter, and the foliage colors vary, dependent on rainfall, year to year. However the light changes seem follow a predictable progression regardless of weather.
