Tiny Little Purple Flowers

.

Tiny little purple flowers were tucked away behind an ornamental grass planting near a medical office building.  To take the photo I had to step into the plantings, off of the sidewalk. Dunno what these little January bloomers are.

I could feel all of the closed circuit cameras homing in on me at the Veteran’s Administration Clinic.  When my husband realized I had paused and was moving the grasses aside, and aiming a small electronic device (camera) at the roots, he  asked what I was looking at.   It was the purple that caught my eye. Purple in January. The tiny blooms are about one quarter inch across.

Cold Wind From The North West

There was a

Cold rushing

Wind from

The North West

Then stillness

Silence

Waiting

Grows ice

Alas for

New growth

Alas for

Spring animals

Awake too soon

Roots bide

In silence

Seeds and tubers

Orient themselves

Without  discussion

When the thaw

Soon arrives

Foliage and flowers

Will drape

Themselves in

Black extremity

A widow’s lace

Across my garden

The temperature is dropping ten degrees Fahrenheit, per hour. Care for your animals, and friends, and relatives, and the helpless, and yourselves, as much as you are able. Please.

Tea Olive

Bear … 12.29.2014

.
The humble Tea Olive’s
Shy flowers,
Veiled by her leaves,
Her delicious
Apricot scent,
Is carried by the
Drifting mists.
I stand,
Quieted,
I, also, am a tree,
Waiting,
Grateful.
Cool perfume
Flows,
Eddies wash my face
Eyes closed
I wait as
My Mother
Gently smudges,
Cleansing,
With her
Touch,
Soft as smoke,
Sweet,
As a dream,
Sacred,
This prayer.
