Squid Dances

Heavy thunder rolls over hills.
Shooting stars fly in the forest
Upside down mountains hide ancient buttes.
Wild horses run free over Pangaea.
Genealogy resides in cave glyphs,
Squid dances as rippling, glowing colors.
Can the sweet mystery that is you be defined?

Direct Link Immune System And The Brain — Profound Implications For Neurology

Direct Link Immune System And The Brain – Vessels Found By Antoine Louveau, PhD,
Posted: 01 Jun 2015 09:24 AM PDT
In a stunning discovery that overturns decades of textbook teaching, researchers have determined that the brain is directly connected to the immune system by vessels previously thought not to exist. The discovery could have profound implications for diseases from autism to Alzheimer’s to multiple sclerosis.

“Instead of asking, ‘How do we study the immune response of the brain?’ ‘Why do multiple sclerosis patients have the immune attacks?’ now we can approach this mechanistically. Because the brain is like every other tissue connected to the peripheral immune system through meningeal lymphatic vessels,” said Jonathan Kipnis, PhD, professor in the UVA Department of Neuroscience and director of UVA’s Center for Brain Immunology and Glia (BIG). “It changes entirely the way we perceive the neuro-immune interaction. We always perceived it before as something esoteric that can’t be studied. But now we can ask mechanistic questions.”

“We believe that for every neurological disease that has an immune component to it, these vessels may play a major role,” Kipnis said. “Hard to imagine that these vessels would not be involved in a [neurological] disease with an immune component.” …

Held away from the
Awareness and memories
Of modern inhabitants in
Coinciding space were the
Eternal silvery cypress swamps
And mysterious black water,
Shinning as flowing rubies
In sunlight and as
Darker garnets in shadows,
At night coalescing
Into molten obsidian.
There were bottomless
Self cleansing sink holes
Perpetually reflecting
Shimmering moonlight,
And hidden limestone
Cenotes of pure water,
Blue subterranean rivers,
Pristine sandy bottomed
Creeks flowing with
Life and grace and beauty,
And ancient, sweet scented,
Flowering trees, bountiful
With seeds and fruits and nuts.
Here there also lived
A being manifest as
A glowing woman.
Her wondrous home
Was bordered by
Sunsets and beaches
Along glory filled seas.
Endless forests of
Singing Pines held aloft
Orchestras of stars,
Accompanied by soft
Undertone chanting
Of rustling palmettos.
Long lived guardians,
The Hardwoods of Remembrance
Whispered of truth sleeping
Cradled in living branches
While standing sentinel
Through evolving eons.
Mère de la Lumière
Had been born from
A starburst,
As Mother to her own
Grandmother, she was
Her own Mother’s Mother,
Her childhood became
The only repository of
Legend and history.
Magical transposition
Created a portal
To the self-forming
Genetic labyrinth
Of lost experiences
And unknowable memories.
Mère de la Lumière
Was named simultaneously
With her own self birth.
To be continued …

What meaning
Is veiled
In common
I have no
No one background
Resonating genetic
Social origins
Written flow
Emanating from
The void of
An empty heart
In silence
Can the written
Be heard echoing
From myriad cryptic
Speaking from
A nowhere
Center truth
Change mutates
Subjective adaptions
Hearts’ language
What say I
Before conjured
Meaning obscures

But We Do Not

Those without voice
Cry out within our hearts.
Those who are hidden,
Are within our awareness.
Those who suffer,
Are our kindest teachers.
There are those of us who hear,
But we do not listen.
There are those of us who look,
But we do not see.
There are those of us who know,
But we allow fear to guide our actions.

THE DOCTOR IS IN — Music Themes

JOHNNY chose THE DOCTOR IS IN for this week’s Music Theme. I decided to skip over DOCTORS, and just skim over the top of a few forms of doctoring that may or may not be so familiar.
LISA OF THE LIGHT  has chosen DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE as next week’s Music Theme.

MEDICINE — Rising Appalachia — Leah Song — Chloe Smith — Biko Casini — David Brown

“Medicine” is a song-anthem honoring the traditions of folk medicine; plant-based medicine as a tool for empowerment and healing. It is a call to action to support the voices of the herbalists, healers, and teachers… the roots, plants, trees, and stones… the arts, the spirits, and the wild ones. It is an honoring of all the many ways that we can be well, and the radical and traditional ways in which we can steward health within ourselves.
“This song is a direct tribute to the people around the world who are holding and teaching these ways of herbal plant-based medicine, educating us all to know our gardens, our forests, our plants and our own bodies… to bring wellness back into our own hands and communities. It is not a dismissal of modern medicine, but a gratitude and honoring of its ancestry and foundations within folkloric traditions.”

Poisoned Harvest

I wake to my fears,
As lonesome as I dreamed,
Hair wet with hopeless tears
The tomorrows we dreamed,
Are lost in bygone years.
I cry, grieving, in my sleep
I cry for the secret sorrows
That we all sadly keep,
I weep for children’s unknown sorrows,
And the poisoned harvest they must reap.
