  2. What movie is that Black Snake Moan from? What a powerful scene. And I love John Lee Hooker’s music. He knew the power of silence. His caesuras are masterful. Glad you stopped by, Bear, or I might have missed these. And they fit my mood so perfectly. 🙂

    • The movie is of the same name, Black Snake Moan. It is NOT a family movie. And I do not like much of the sentiments in it … including this scene … except it does work quite well for what it is.

Blues can sometimes make misery a joy. Yes, John Lee Hooker knew his medium.

The emphasized pause is missing from much of popular music. The music sounds are so constant as to become rather like white noise.

It is difficult to express these darker moods, there are few acceptable venue for thunder and monsters and remembered trauma and unavoidable and unrelieved or chronic pain, physical or otherwise ….

I hope and pray that you feel better soon, that your shoulder heals completely with no recurrence, that bad memories remain mostly out of the way, and current troubles pass as a passing weather disturbance ….

      Is your shoulder not healing?

      • The shot was traumatic enough that I’m not sure if it’s healing. I took 3 steps back in dealing with my life. But I’m a determined person, and I will work hard to get it well again. I have to sit at my computer less and exercise more. 🙂 And you’re right, the harder emotions are often silenced or overlooked. Life a bad smell we don’t mention. I care, and can hear the bad things. XOXOX

        • Brenda, I have heard that if the shot doesn’t offer almost instant relief the problem may be different and require a different sort of therapy … but even with cortisol-steroids it most likely will eventually return. For example it works for bursitis, but not a torn rotator cuff.

My husband gets a “shot” for bursitis in his shoulder every year or so, with immediate relief. The intervals increasing so that it has now been four years. He is one of the lucky ones.

I had similar injections as a teen in my ankles for bursitis/tendonitis aggravated by repeat injuries from dance. I had to give up the idea of ever being professional. I could not walk .. at all … without those injections, and I am grateful for them. No MRI available in the late 60s for me. Have had other problems with other joints and tendons and bursa in years since.

Has your orthopedist thought about an MRI to see what is really going on? You really should be much better by now.

I wonder if standing backwards would help you to make forward progress by taking steps backwards?

Can you brush your beautiful hair? cut your food? type? wash dishes? dry off from a shower? tie a shoelace? put on a bra? make a pony-tail? drive? You have my full sympathy.

          • Luckily my hair just needs brushing not ponytails, and one hand is sufficient for that. Other activities are hard, mostly putting on and taking off clothes. You nailed it, all those activities are a torture. The shot itself made my shoulder hurt worse on Thursday, but it’s improving. I have other areas of bursitis, and the symptoms of frozen shoulder are pretty close to my case. I’m still hoping surgery won’t be necessary. I’ve had enough surgery to last me a lifetime. I’m seeing a shoulder specialist for physical therapy, and I hope that I’ll be a lot better by July. Meanwhile, it was my hubby’s birthday, and we had such fun last night. Mexican food, sangria and dark chocolate cake.

I’m sorry to hear about your ankles and the dancing. Sometimes I think some of us are born with brains too active and powerful for our bodies to achieve the brain’s ambitions. I see myself writing all day, but my body suffers from that, and I have to limit my time in a chair. I try to envision what I want to write, so when I sit down I don’t spin my wheels.
