THE DOCTOR IS IN — Music Themes

JOHNNY chose THE DOCTOR IS IN for this week’s Music Theme. I decided to skip over DOCTORS, and just skim over the top of a few forms of doctoring that may or may not be so familiar.
LISA OF THE LIGHT  has chosen DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE as next week’s Music Theme.

MEDICINE — Rising Appalachia — Leah Song — Chloe Smith — Biko Casini — David Brown

“Medicine” is a song-anthem honoring the traditions of folk medicine; plant-based medicine as a tool for empowerment and healing. It is a call to action to support the voices of the herbalists, healers, and teachers… the roots, plants, trees, and stones… the arts, the spirits, and the wild ones. It is an honoring of all the many ways that we can be well, and the radical and traditional ways in which we can steward health within ourselves.
“This song is a direct tribute to the people around the world who are holding and teaching these ways of herbal plant-based medicine, educating us all to know our gardens, our forests, our plants and our own bodies… to bring wellness back into our own hands and communities. It is not a dismissal of modern medicine, but a gratitude and honoring of its ancestry and foundations within folkloric traditions.”

Blessed woman come to me
Woman of the fires Woman of poetry
Blessed woman come to me
Woman of healing Woman of skillful means
Blessed woman of the land
Guide my heart and guide my hand
Blessed woman of the streams
Guide my soul and guide my dreams
Blessed woman of the hills
Heal our wounds and heal our ills
Blessed woman of the plain
Waken me to renew again

If I were to start chanting, Lisa would call my doctor -the one who keeps me humble… As for your selections, I will be spending the evening with my girlfriend, listening and no doubt relaxing. This will happen IF we can stay up later than the girls. I will percolate some strong coffee.

If you see Willow, tell her that I really liked her music theme, but was not able to say so on her post. Thank you in advance. 🙂

Medicine Buddha ( Bhaisajyaguru ) 藥師佛
    – Role in Tibetan Buddhism
The practice of Medicine Buddha, the Supreme Healer (or Sangay Menla in Tibetan) is not only a very powerful method for healing and increasing healing powers both for oneself and others, but also for overcoming the inner sickness of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, thus to meditate on the Medicine Buddha can help decrease physical and mental illness and suffering.

The Medicine Buddha mantra is held to be extremely powerful for healing of physical illnesses and purification of negative karma. One form of practice based on the Medicine Buddha is done when one is stricken by disease. The patient is to recite the long Medicine Buddha mantra 108 times over a glass of water. The water is now believed to be blessed by the power of the mantra and the blessing of the Medicine Buddha himself, and the patient is to drink the water. This practice is then repeated each day until the illness is cured.

    Mantra:
Tayata Om Bekanze Bekanze Maha BeKanze Radza Samudgate Soha

The Twelve Vows of the Medicine Buddha upon attaining Enlightenment, according to the Medicine Buddha Sutra[1] are:

    1. To illuminate countless realms with his radiance, enabling anyone to become a Buddha just like him.
    2. To awaken the minds of sentient beings through his light of lapis lazuli.
    3. To provide the sentient beings with whatever material needs they require.
    4. To correct heretical views and inspire beings toward the path of the Bodhisattva.
    5. To help beings follow the Moral Precepts, even if they failed before.
    6. To heal beings born with deformities, illness or other physical sufferings.
    7. To help relieve the destitute and the sick.
    8. To help women who wish to be reborn as men achieve their desired rebirth.
    9. To help heal mental afflictions and delusions.
    10. To help the oppressed be free from suffering.
    11. To relieve those who suffer from terrible hunger and thirst.
    12. To help clothe those who are destitute and suffering from cold and mosquitoes.

May all sentient beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.
    願一切衆生得聞藥師如來佛號, 業障悉消除, 永離苦惡, 速得佛果。

    • Magical Maddie — I apologize for not posting enough written information for you. However, I wasn’t trying to teach a class, just spark interest.

Did you know that there are several different sects of Tibetan Buddhism?

Did you know that blessing water, and other things to be consumed, invokes elementary structural changes. Alterations that are visible under an electron microscope.

Tibetan style Yogis do not attempt to explain what they do to lay people. Medicine people only share their knowledge in a specific structured way so as to avoid misunderstandings. Some misunderstandings are dangerous. It takes about 20 years of continuious study to become competent as a beginner in the Medicine Buddha path. It is comparable to the studies of Western medical doctors.

That’s very considerate of you to share knowledge, i have this fascination with Tibetan culture, rituals, chants. i’m not familiar with the various sects, but it stands to reason since Buddhism has branched outward with many “styles” of practice.
I am familiar with structured/ programmed water, having read the work of Dr. Masaru Emoto, scientists attribute water to be the universal solvent, and carries information energetically. Water has “consciousness”, more info:

Fascinating how holistic medicine has advanced in indigenous cultures, and compliments western medicine very well. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
Enjoy u’r day beneficent Bear. 🙂
