I was introduced to a new to me genre. My Dear Son IV, Roy, gave me the gift of awareness of KLINGON OPERA.
According to RVRGEEK, “‘u’ (meaning Universe in Klingon) is part of the first full length Klingon opera performed on earth.
“Klingon opera is based around the principle of musical combat, the impact of two opposing forces.”

Klingon Opera ‘u’ in Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin
5min. 30sec.
uploaded by Drongo
Komposition: Eef van Breen
Libretto: Kees Ligtelijn and Marc Okrand
Künstlerische Leitung: Floris Schönfeld
Produktion: Theater Zeebelt/ Den Haag
“Part of the very special opera ‘u’ by Floris Schönfeld, directly from the Netherlands.
They tell us the story of Kahless and how he lost his brother and father to the underworld, only to follow and rescue them.
“Here we see Kahless (the wonderful Taru Huotari) fighting together with his love Lukara (Jeannette Huizinga). After the Master of the Scream (Michael Mason) tells us more about the battle at the river, Kotar from the Underworld (Ben Kropp) is looking for the two stolen souls (father and brother of Kahless) and will be convinced by Kahless to join the battle against Molor.
“Saw it in the 2013 special “Unmenschliche Musik” at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.” http://www.hkw.de Drongo

Definitely a mood changer…. whatever the mood. It doesn’t fit anyone, but Klingons. I don’t believe I could have endured the entire program.

This is pretty far out! So well done. I’m really struck by how “alien” it seems… by which I mean… I usually have an easy time appreciating even the most odd and eccentric of “world music”, but the emotions conveyed here hit me as very unearthly, certainly way out of my own little world.

⭐ 😀 ⭐ RVRGeek also sent this:
“And now for something completely different, Mozart’s Queen of the Night Aria, in the traditional Klingon!”

LOL! I’ll admit, my first reaction was… wait a minute, would a Klingon really sing that?? (ref: There’s no Klingon word for Hello.
Then I looked up the lyrics to QOTN:
“English Translation of “Der Hölle Rache”
The vengeance of Hell boils in my heart,
Death and despair flame about me!
If Sarastro does not through you feel
The pain of death,
Then you will be my daughter nevermore.
Disowned may you be forever,
Abandoned may you be forever,
Destroyed be forever
All the bonds of nature,
If not through you
Sarastro becomes pale! (as death)
Hear, Gods of Revenge,
Hear a mother’s oath!”

Exactly!!!
(Though technically I think the (#$ should go BEFORE the &* … separated by “ … to form the ablatic constructiqCH’lat, which we don’t have … pretty much anywhere on Earth.)

Lol cute! Alas, a Mozart aria is way too delicate and refined for the traditional Klingon operatic repertoire. The Klingon warrior spirit is missing, not to mention a lack of dissonant chords and syncopated melodies. 🙂
