Habit and Hubris

.
.
.
How would it be
If you and I
Were free of the part
Referred to as me?
What if we had
Never been?
.
No harsh sandpaper words scraping,
No thorns or bristles scratching at raw pain,
No back barbed sarcasm sneering,
No jagged edges catching by surprise,
Nothing to draw blood,
No enjoined history of private grief,
No remembered hurts ignored,
Nor lonesome nighttime sidling prance,
No whining and complaining
About who does what and when,
No endless wrestler’s circling
Trying to find grip.
.
Would either you or I
Have anything more to say?
Would that be such
A terrible price to pay?
Is there only habit and hubris left?
Is there only,
From all views,
The me and me
And me and me and me
And more me and what about me?
Is there nothing left of us?
.
How would it be
If you and I
Were free of the part
Referred to as me?
What if we had
Never been?

    • Nettles, if treated properly, make a very good anti-inflammatory tea. Some people even eat the greens, though not I. 🙂 🙂

        • I suppose it is too bad, really, as nettles are so plentiful. Too plentiful. I don’t make the tea either. 😦 I’m 64, and though I have been married 41 of those years, only (shy almost a month) 21 of those years to my Dear Husband.

You know, you can’t get rid of pesky sting nettle’s by cutting or crushing them. They must be grasped firmly near the base and yanked out by the roots. Yup. I do do this, rather than making tea or whatever.

when do two cease to be one… when the miles traveled together cease to matter – maybe that’s when love ends
