HOMEWARD BOUND — Nox Arcana

_______________________________________________________________

I am grateful to have always been blessed to be At Home and Welcome, almost wherever I’ve been.  I am also grateful to have always had a HOME at Christmas time.   I have spent Christmas Day in several different places that I have lived.   Here is a list of the cities, towns, or nearest towns in which I have spent Christmas.  This is not in any kind of order as some places saw many Christmas and a few only one, and others several.

Lakeland, Florida

Punta Gorda, Florida

Yulee, Florida

Ocala, Florida

Panama City, Florida

Hilliard, Florida

Tallahassee, Florida

Quincy, Florida

Jacksonville, Florida

Sopchoppy, Florida

Crawfordville, Florida

Lakeview, Oregon

Mapleton, Oregon

Great Falls, Montana

San Jose, California

Blue Ridge, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia

Huntsville, Alabama

Urawa, Japan

And now 15 Christmases in a row (minus one) right where I am now .   Some Christmases were in different parts of the same community, and some were several years in one place.  And in some cases HOME changed places a few times in the same year before Christmas.  This is just a list of Christmas venue.  I didn’t live in two of these named places, but all are or were HOME, and I was an actual resident everywhere else.

By the way, I love your list of all the places you’ve spent Christmas. So impressive! Mine wouldn’t be quite as long, but the sleeping arrangements on some Christmas would be interesting to report. I might have to do that sometime. I’ve been stranded on Christmas Eve several times because of my work.

No, Collaborator did comment about it. But now this is my comment. I’ve had many more Christmases than Collaborator, and I’ve been separated from my family on Christmas because of a combination of weather and work. So I’m thinking that your list of where you’ve spent Christmas might inspire something similar for me at some point. 🙂

I do think it’s interesting that both Collaborator and I latched onto that list. She and I have some interesting similarities. Thankfully, we have many differences, too. 🙂

        • I should like to read whatever you write, when you are at pause large enough to allow you to compose your idea and memories into an essay … or something. My list is not in chronological order, if it were I would have to list some places several times, with others in between. I have been “snowed in” but snowed in at home, not at , or once it was too icy (almost no snow) to even walk up a mountain that no way could the car climb , but that was a couple of days before Christmas and we did get there that same day, and then stayed put. 🙂 Can’t wait to read you stories of the cascading circumstances and how you coped. 🙂

Thanks, Bear! It’s nice to have a waiting audience for some of my ramblings. I’m currently finishing an essay that I’m using to teach essay writing about the choice I made between making quilting or piano my hobby of choice in Taiwan. I love that when I write, I learn things about myself that I wasn’t conscious of. That’s one of the cool things about writing that I have yet to get my students to grasp. There is an overemphasis on grammar and vocabulary here which makes it hard for me to help them excavate real ideas and find the things they’re passionate about. But I will continue to swim against the current. 🙂

I really enjoyed that rendition of Adeste Fideles! Such clear and rich voices! Nox Arcana is great! Everything is great. And I will admit, having this music to listen to made working on my semester grading much more pleasant. Maybe the students’ will even benefit by a point or two because of my enhanced mood. 🙂

  5. I didn’t realize you’ve spent the holidays at so many different places! Mine have mostly been spent in Reese, Michigan with a couple exceptions like my current hometown. Homeward Bound was really pretty! I’ll be sure to listen to the others a little later on 🙂
