The shushing of the Aspen
Soft flickering leafy sea
Memories of my childhood
When even the Trees
Whispered Shush Shush
Shimmering in a lullaby
Especially for me.

You took me home to the Rockies with this one Bear. Aspen are great music.

Homesick for trees. We are.

My first college room-mate’s mother so loved and missed Aspen so much that her mother sent her small branches in those large popcorn tins. She placed them around our room. It was one of her ‘better’ decorating moves. Quite lovely.

There are not so many groves left. A few years ago, I visited, via Google Earth, the one I best remember in Oregon. It is gone. Replaced by suburban sprawl. A canyon of side walks. 😦

As if we need another suburb. Not. I’ll take the trees any day.

I love the feeling of this poem. There is so much here, but I especially like the line “shimmering in a lullaby.” What lovely and comforting image!

That’s so sad and unnecessary. Are they all in North America?

OK, I’ll try to see if I can locate some when I am in the US next summer. Thanks!
