Gimme Shelter – Grand Funk Railroad From the 1971 album Survival.
Gimme Shelter
Oh, a storm is threat’ning
My very life today
If I don’t get some shelter
Oh yeah, I’m gonna fade away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
Ooh, see the fire is sweepin’
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
The floods is threat’ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I’m gonna fade away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away
Okay, who writing songs NOW can compare from your point of view, Bear? Or anyone else for that matter? Hmm?

At the moment only this –which you can listen to entirely online– http://music.peacefuluprising.org/releases
Songs for climate justice.
I’m trying to think of NEW song/poetry material from the last year or two. I’m coming up empty—but that is probably just my ignorance. So I guess this is a brainstorming session. 🙂

Thanks Eva, Probably not ignorance, just have other stuff on your mind. Of those in your link I liked these two best:
Otter Creek – Bidder 70
http://music.peacefuluprising.org/track/bidder-70 and
8. Jen Hajj – I Am Home
http://music.peacefuluprising.org/track/i-am-home
I think I misunderstood your criteria. Climate justice songs? Earth Change songs? good Rock songs? good poetry/lyrics + music songs any genre? Animals? I think there are some very good new creations in almost all genre. But You’ll have to narrow the criteria.
p.s. You and I and others have already posted quite a few., example: Omnia — I don’t Speak Human. There are others.
IDEA
How about Tuesday, October 1 we each post 1/2 dozen or so songs dedicated to a specific genre that YOU choose? It might be difficult to limit them to only that number., depending on your criteria. within the genre, or particular subject matter in any genre or ????
Today I”m not ready, tomorrow is filled with doggey surgery, Dear Son’s orthopedist for injured shoulder and Dear Husband’s restricted movements while he heals from his new pacemaker + he injured his back. And everything is in different towns, as per usual with us.
But I do have some songs in mind and will try to find them on-line later. 🙂 and perhaps others if criteria is different. 🙂 Maybe we could do something like this once/month with changing criteria? Just some thoughts. Bear

Excellent idea, Bear!
I was really just pulling thoughts out of the air regarding songs that make a statement-not just oh what fun it is to play-sort of music. But music that consciously intends to speak out and reach others on any topic. Part of this is a result of finding so many protest songs always listed–the same great ones–but then I wonder WHO is writing What for the issues NOW? Hence I knew of the Folk songs for Climate Justice at Peaceful Uprising because of Tim DeChristopher’s adventures with the land and our broken justice system.
Narrowing it down to a genre or theme is an excellent notion. And having a couple of days to consider things is a very good idea too.
Ha–you want me to pick first! LOL. Okay. I will give it some thought before just dashing something off.
It sounds like you have a lot on your plate with health issues for everyone. So–if Oct.1 is too soon, no problem. This is cyber-land after all. We are breaking the barriers of time and place with communication via this medium.
Yes, we could indeed try doing regularly. 🙂
Okay, I will take a walk and see what ‘narrow’ arises.
I do love I Don’t Speak Human—ahhh. Message and power in song and image. .

How does the theme/subject of “Space” appeal to you, Bear?
As in the planets, moons, stars, ‘outer’ space?
Just to get us started–big bangs! LOL.
If you’ve got a better idea, I’m all ‘ears’. 🙂

OK. Any genre? classical to jazz to metal to all? Does this include sci-fi, astrology, movie themes, classical, science and cosmic? 🙂 All “Space” included? or are some themes excluded?
